Rex Airlines electrifies the aviation scene with John Sharp

John Sharp

Tune into the Illuminate 2022 session with the Hon John Sharp AM Deputy Chairman and an Independent Director of the Rex Airline Group to hear …

  • how Rex is shaking up the domestic aviation scene for Australian business travellers
  • how Rex has partnered with key organisations to bring a new corporate offering to travellers
  • about Rex Airlines plans to retrofit its aircraft with electric engines and what this could mean for airfare pricing.

With airlines currently in the news for a range of reasons, it’s clear domestic air travel is not only fiercely competitive, but also facing some important challenges. With so much at stake, we welcome guest speaker, the Hon John Sharp AM, to share his insights into the future of Australia’s third domestic carrier – Rex Airlines, at Illuminate 2022.

With Illuminate’s theme of Focus Forward – Bigger, Better, Stronger it seems appropriate to reflect on the outlook for air travel, arguably the hardest hit sector of the travel industry over the past two years. A licensed pilot and aviator at heart, Mr Sharp is Deputy Chairman and an Independent Director of the Rex Airline Group. Rex Airlines, Australia’s largest regional airline, is currently in the process of expanding services, its network and fleet.

Rex’s aggressive push into domestic passenger services after Covid-19 has been kickstarted with numerous key business moves including the acquisition of National Jet Express (NJE), the regional services arm of Cobham Aviation Services Australia (Cobham), more Boeing 737 aircraft, increasing services on the Golden Triangle routes of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and collaboration with Dovetail Electric Aviation, to help the airline convert its existing turbine powered aircraft to electric nil emission propulsion. David Doral and Aaron Shaw – both co-founders of Dovetail Electric Aviation will be joining Mr Sharp on the day at Illuminate.

Adding to these achievements is Rex’s new partnership with Flight Centre Travel Group.

Mr Sharp brings a wealth of experience to the table, with a background including 14 years as a member of the House of Representatives, running his own aviation and transport consulting company and having held too many high-profile board positions to mention.
